#20 - The Book of God and Physics

The Book of God and Physics: A Novel of the Voynich Mystery

What a wonderful read.  It combine history, personal uncertainty, religious/scientific dynamism and intrigue.  It is not great literature but sure beats most of what is out there today.  It is in the top 2 of my readings so far this yeear

#19 Polk's Folly

#19- Polks Folly - This is an interesting read to me particularly because my wife's mother was a Polk.  While her branch of the family was a little more hardscrabble than some of their more illustrious cousins it is interesting to see how families morph, what remains constant and the context of their lives.  It give flesh to the skeletal emptiness of ancestry.com

Books #17 and #18 - The Broker and Americanah

Sometimes you need to just gobble up an easy to read, somewhat compelling read.  Grisham is very good at these.  Nothing surprising here.  Good old fun.  Read it in three days.

#18 - A well written, thought provoking book.  Western culture has a way of causing you to get confused about who you are.  Maybe it is too easy to be cut adrift.  Is it our overarching defense of freedom of action?  Can this freedom have a price of necessary choice of intentional living or a purposeless life?

Book #15 - Thomas Cromwell

Book #15 - Thomas Cromwell

Thomas Cromwell: The Untold Story of Henry Viii's Most Faithful Servant

This was an interesting peek inside the court of Henry VIII and how small things can cause great change.  The book itself is well written and compelling.  Made even more so by the shenanigans going on in the court.  Had Catherine of Aragon produced a male heir (and, as it turns out, that was irrelevant), Henry would never have divorced her and the Catholic church would still be the dominant religious force in England.  Cromwell was a mastermind in getting things done and actually a significant reformer.  Without him the British throne would not hold the power it does today. Cromwell was an unremarkable personality but accomplished so much due to his intelligent and tireless approach to his duties.  Definitely worth the read.  4.5 stars
